Clear your cache (Browsing data or Temporary internet files)

If you’re experiencing problems with BBC online you can try clearing your cache (your browser saves information from web pages to help them load more quickly next time you visit them – this is known as a cache). 

(The BBC is not responsible for non-BBC websites)

Windows

Internet Explorer 8

  1. Go to Tools and from the Safety menu, click Delete Browsing History.
  2. Check Temporary Internet files and History.
  3. Click Delete.

In some cases you may need to open a new window and choose a private session before attempting the above.

Firefox

  1. In the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History.
  2. Under Time Range To Clear select Everything.
  3. Click Clear Now.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome menu button on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select More tools.
  3. Select Clear browsing data.
  4. In the dialogue that appears, select the tickboxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
  5. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Select beginning of time to delete everything.
  6. Click Clear browsing data.

Opera

  1. Click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Delete private data.
  3. Select the data you want to clear and press Delete.

Apple Macintosh

Safari

  1. In the Safari menu, select Empty Cache.
  2. Click Empty when prompted.

Firefox

  1. In the Firefox menu, go to Tools and select Clear Private Data.
  2. Ensure the Cache box is ticked.
  3. Click Clear Private Data Now.

Google Chrome

  1. In the Chrome menu, select Clear Browsing Data.
  2. Select the checkboxes for the types of information you wish to remove.
  3. Use the Clear data from this period menu to select the amount of data you want to delete.
  4. Click Clear Browsing Data.

Opera

  1. Click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Delete private data.
  3. Select the data you want to clear and press Delete.
