What's the BBC iPlayer Radio Beta?

We’re testing a new version of the BBC iPlayer Radio homepage. It’s a completely new design, but offers the same functionality as before.

If you see the BBC iPlayer Radio Beta logo at the top of the page at bbc.co.uk/radio then you’ve been randomly selected to see the changes we’re introducing before it’s gradually shared with other users.

What are the benefits?

We've made a whole bunch of improvements, including:

  • Your personalised content (from My Radio) becomes more accessible on the homepage
  • The new homepage contains a list of programmes you haven't finished, to continue listening to later
  • A quicker route to listen live to BBC Radio stations

Improvements to the playback area

You can listen live to 57 BBC Radio stations as well as their on-demand radio programmes and clips. While listening live, see what programme is on next as well as which tracks are being currently played or have been recently played (on stations such as Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2 and 6 Music).

You can also rewind live radio, so you can catch the bits of a programme you might have missed.

While listening to on-demand radio programmes and clips you can see which items (if any) have been lined up for them in a queue. The queue will play through automatically and you can skip ahead to items further in the queue.

For both live and on-demand listeners, personal recommendations of items based on what's popular across BBC Radio as well as your own specific listening history are available at the bottom of the page.

Can I still play content in the pop-up Radioplayer console?

If you want to listen live, choose your station using the Stations drop down menu towards the top of the page to start playback in the pop-up Radioplayer console. Once the pop-up console has launched, you can also use its search box to discover and play BBC on-demand radio programmes.

If you don't use the Radioplayer console and want to continue browsing while listening, open a new tab on your web browser.
