How do I enable JavaScript?

Many web sites and web applications use JavaScript, which is a type of computer language. BBC iPlayer needs JavaScript to run correctly and if you are being asked to enable JavaScript please follow the steps detailed below.

If you are told to enable JavaScript when you already have JavaScript enabled, try clearing the browser cache or perform a refresh of the web page.

JavaScript is software that helps BBC iPlayer work with your computer and other devices such as games consoles, Windows XP, Vista & 7.

Internet Explorer

  1. Go to Tools then Internet Options
  2. Click on the Security tab
  3. Click on Custom Level
  4. Scroll down until you see a section labelled Scripting
  5. Under Active Scripting, select Enable and click OK

  1. Go to Tools then Options
  2. Click on the Content tab
  3. Make sure there is a tick in the box next to Enable JavaScript
  4. Click OK

  1. Click Firefox on the menu bar
  2. Click Preferences
  3. Select the Content section
  4. Ensure the Enable JavaScript box has a tick next to it

  1. Go to Chrome Menu
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on Show Advanced Settings
  4. Under Privacy click on Content Settings
  5. Under JavaScript select ‘Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)'
  6. Click on ‘OK' button
  7. Close Settings and click on ‘Reload this page' button to refresh

  5. Close Preferences
