The Series Record feature allows you to set up your computer to download BBC programmes automatically as soon as they are made available. Once set, all new episodes of the selected programme title will be downloaded to the iPlayer Desktop application on your computer. You must have the BBC iPlayer Desktop application installed on your computer to use subscriptions.
Not all programmes are available for subscription downloads such as films and sporting events. The Series Record button will be greyed out in this instance.
You need to be connected to the internet to download episodes, although you can still continue to play episodes offline that have been previously downloaded.
How do I activate the Series Record feature for my favourite programmes?
This can be set up in 2 different ways:
1) Within the BBC iPlayer programme pages select Download Options, then Series Record. This will automatically download the next episode in the series and all future episodes when they become available.
The correct version of BBC iPlayer Desktop application must be installed to enable this functionality. If an install or upgrade is required the site will guide you through this process. Once installed you need to return to the iPlayer play out page and select the Series Record button again.
2) In the BBC iPlayer Desktop application where you have an available episode rollover the item and select Series Record. If any episodes in the series are available to download from the BBC iPlayer website they will download automatically. You need to be connected to the internet to receive subscription downloads.
Which episodes are downloaded?
When multiple episodes are available to download from different series, Series Record will download all available and future episodes based on your series of choice, and all future series from this point.
How do I stop downloading future episodes?
In the BBC iPlayer Desktop application, rollover the programme series and select 'Pause Series Record'.
Is the download availability window increased?
No. Due to rights restrictions the standard download availability rules apply.
Why has my subscription been suspended?
To prevent unwanted episodes being downloaded to your computer, if you have not played an episode within 30 days BBC iPlayer Desktop will suspend Series Record for future episodes. The next time you open the iPlayer Desktop application a message gives 2 options whether to recommence or cancel the Series Record.
