What should I do if BBC iPlayer Desktop states "Sorry an error has occurred, the application could not be installed"?

If you see the message "Sorry an error has occurred. The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author" first try removing any Adobe Air programs you may have and try again.

If this still does not fix the problem, please visit this Adobe site to enable logging to give us more information for when you contact us.

Your computer needs to meet minimum specifications to install and Adobe Air. Visit the Adobe Air specification page to ensure your computer meets these specifications. Windows 8 users, please note that BBC iPlayer Desktop can only be downloaded and used in Desktop mode.
