If you see the message that "The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author" you should clear your cache as described here and try again. Make sure that when prompted to save or open the file, you choose Save and run the file from your computer.

If that fails, uninstall previous versions of Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop.

Windows XP 

1. The application can easily be removed from the Control Panel and Add or Remove Programs.
2. Search for BBC iPlayer Desktop and click Remove.
3. You should also search for Adobe Air and if you have this then click Remove.
4. Return to BBC iPlayer and install BBC iPlayer Desktop as normal.

You still experience a problem

1. Go to the Microsoft site and follow the instructions for Troubleshooting problems when you install, uninstall or upgrade software on a Windows based computer. This link will take you outside BBC Online. The BBC is not responsible for content or software downloaded from external sites.
2. Use it to remove Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop.
3. Get Adobe Air. This link will take you outside BBC Online. The BBC is not responsible for content or software downloaded from external sites.
4. Return to BBC iPlayer and install BBC iPlayer Desktop as normal. Make sure that when prompted to save or open the Desktop file, you choose Save and run the file from your computer.
