We've designed the Download for portable devices to be as simple as possible. However, here's a guide to some things that can go wrong.
Firefox users
Firefox users should check this advice as there are some issues unique to this browser, so we recommend you use Internet Explorer to ensure you get the DRM licence.
I can't download or the download's not available
You need a Windows machine and the programme itself needs to be available for download - not all programmes are available as a Download for media players.
You computer also needs to be configured to accept the download's digital rights management (DRM). In Internet Explorer, go to this Microsoft page to configure - or individualise - your machine.
I can't save my download
If you managed to get to the Portable Devices page but can't save when you click Download, check your browser's security settings, or try another browser. This is because some browsers may be set to block downloads. Firefox users should check this advice.
I can't transfer my download via a USB cable
This guide tells you how to transfer your download (sideload). If you see an error message along the lines that it is "outside of your device limitations", you need to play your download on your computer before transfer. It should pick up the licence and now let you transfer the file.
In addition, Nokia N96 users should select the Media Transfer option on your phone once you've connected the USB cable. This is because programmes need to be transferred in MTP mode.
My phone dials the internet to get a licence
This occurs if you copy the programme onto a memory card then put into your player. You may wish to transfer the file via USB as described above to ensure that the licence is sent automatically.
My portable media player can't play the file
Is it supported? Check at this FAQ or Where to get BBC iPlayer page. If it is listed, you may need to contact your device's manufacturer.
