To play downloaded programmes on your mobile device, you need to download the programme onto your computer.
1. | Go to BBC iPlayer on your PC. If downloads for portable devices are available, you'll see the Download button with the option For portable devices. Click the For portable devices option to start the download. |
2. | The PORTABLE DEVICES confirmation message will appear listing the devices. Select the Continue button to start the download. |
3. | The spinning icon will be displayed to indicate that the download is being prepared. Your programme will now be ready for download. If you get an error message, you may need to individualise your computer - follow the link in the message, or go to Microsoft (you need to be using Internet Explorer). Then try again. |
4. | Select the Download button to start downloading your programme. If nothing happens, check your browser's security settings, or try another browser. |
5. | Save the programme to your computer in the normal way. Once you have saved this file to your hard drive, you then need to transfer it to your portable device. You may need to play a few seconds of the file on your computer first if you plan to transfer a programme over your USB cable (sideload), and you can also set up Windows Media Player to automatically sync downloads with your device if you wish. If you see an error message, please see this advice. Archos users should see this advice. |
For guidance on how to transfer downloaded programmes from Windows Media Player to your portable device, please see the specific FAQ that relates to this.
More on licences
Wherever possible we will transfer the licence by pre-delivering it. In some cases this is not possible, and when you go to copy your programme over you will be asked to play a few seconds of your programme on your computer to get the licence.
