BBC iPlayer Help

What do I need to transfer a download to my portable media player or phone (sideload)?

You need a Windows machine to be able to get the Download for portable devices option and you may need to set up your computer to accept our downloads - this page has advice on how to fix any problems.

Once downloaded, see our advice on how to transfer the programme to your portable device.

You also need a compatible portable media device or phone to play it on. The most up to date list is at the Where to get BBC iPlayer page, but we have tested the following:

  • Archos 605 WiFi
  • Archos Internet MediaTablet
  • Philips GoGear SA52 series
  • Philips GoGear Ariaz
  • Philips GoGear Muse
  • Philips GoGear Opus
  • Samsung YP-P2 and YP-Q1
  • Sony Walkman E and S Series
  • Creative Zen X-Fi and Creative Zen

At present only the N85 and N96 can sideload. However, certain mobile phones can stream or direct download programmes, our guide tells you which phones can access BBC iPlayer.
