What is Digital Rights Management (DRM)?

To offer BBC television programmes through BBC iPlayer, the BBC has to acquire the relevant rights from the people who make and appear in them.

For downloaded programmes, DRM software protects these rights and prevents programmes being copied and distributed illegally.

The BBC Webwise Guide to Digital Rights Management explains what DRM is and why we use it.
